Katherine Burness was born in Eastern Europe in 1986 and spent her early years there. She currently resides in San Jose, California. Although always fascinated by art, she did not start actively producing art until much later, when the she started her work as a model in February 2009. She quickly found the fine art genre of photography most true to her nature. As a model she learned how to collaborate with various artists to get optimal results, yet she was looking for a different way to express herself as an artist.
It was not until 2010 she she found a different passion, wetplate collodion process. The fascination came when she first looked at the clear glass image, the depth and emotion of which she was not able to capture with any other media. First as a model, then as an apprentice to David John Lotto, and now as a full independent wetplate collodion artist she continues producing images unique in their characteristics and beauty.
The artist is available for commissions, workshops and demonstrations. For inquiries please email at kb@katherineburness.com
About the Website
This website features images made using a traditional wetplate collodion process, which dates back to 1851 and it's originator Frederick Scott Archer. It takes an average of 15 minutes to produce one image, but it may take up to several days to produce an image that is enjoyable to a viewer. All images featured on this website are scans of images made on black aluminum (alumitypes) or red or clear plexiglass. Although the scans are useful to share the imagery, the true beauty of each image is only appreciated in person. The viewers are highly encouraged to see wetplates in person.
All images posted on this website are subject to copyright laws. Please do not copy and post without artist's written permission.
